Off-topic: While taking a break from unpacking it occurred to me that I’m not going to have room in this apartment for all the junk we’ve accumulated, and that’s despite having gotten rid of a good chunk. Now that’s not to say it won’t fit in here somewhere because it always does–BUT, I’m so tired of seeing boxes everywhere. I wish I could finally reside in some place which does not resemble a storage facility, but with the rising energy costs in Alaska I’m afraid this will just have to suffice. It’s all we could afford and it’s a decent place.
With the latest demise of my “good computer” I’m thinking maybe I should just let HG die once and for all. Even when/if I get it repaired I might not have time for the zine anymore since I scored a web design job. Besides, there is the nagging feeling that I should really get on back to my own writing; I miss it, to tell the truth.
So, to write or not to write is the question: the answer to it still eludes me, however.
I bought a new couch back in October out of total necessity–first time I ever bought a brand new, large piece of furniture. This apartment entrance is up eight steps and then down fifteen steps and after trying every possible configuration it dawned on me that there was no way in hell that new couch was going to make it inside the apartment:( It’s just too large. So, I had BT take it to work where he stored it for a few days and then sold it to a co-worker for one quarter its purchase price. We’re using an ancient chair I got from a hotel I worked in twelve years ago, a desk chair, and a couple of metal folding chairs for seating, which is unpleasant, to put it mildly.
And, that is just one of the horror stories I have for this latest relocation. Still and all, life is good.

Well, we’re finally residing in our new apartment. Of course, there are boxes stacked from floor to ceiling and I can’t find most of my clothes, but at least we’re in!
We moved most of the bulky stuff over the weekend but I had forgotten what huge pack-rats men-folk are. There was a shed at the old place that was filled (literally) with boxes of who-the hell-knows-what. We loaded a pick-up truck and an attached trailer with just junk and hauled it to the landfill, then we gave away two truck loads of stuff and it still took us until last night to get everything moved. Oh, I take that back…there are still a few things at the old place which will be brought over here this evening.
For the last three days, I’ve gone to the trailer and cleaned it during the day. OMG, I can’t believe I actually lived there for four years. It was so disgusting and I don’t mean just ordinary, dirty disgusting (I do actually clean from time to time after all), but deep-down-there-is-little-that-can-be-done-about-it disgusting. I scrubbed every wall in that place and spent a full day trying to clean the carpets. My hands hurt and I think I wore away my fingerprints doing all this, and I won’t even go into the muscle aches in places where I never even knew I had muscles. That place is much, much, much cleaner than when we moved in so if I don’t get my deposit back, heads will roll!
This new place is cute, and clean on a deep level. It sat empty a little while so there’s a good deal of dust everywhere, but that’s all right. Also, the oven is dirty-ish, but it’s a self cleaning one so that’s all right, too. Best of all, the tub is huge and spanking clean…NO ORANGE WATER…YAY!
Downsides? It’s almost a basement apartment so my view outdoors is of the front grill of a truck belonging to the lady upstairs, and speaking of the upstairs neighbors, in a word…noisy…but so far not overly so. Also, I do miss my lake:)
Now comes the somewhat daunting task of unpacking but I think I’m up to the job.
Okay, that’s it for now; I’ve got work to do. Have a nice day because life is good.

The time has arrived…out of this dump and into a nicer, cleaner, CHEAPER place. This has been four years coming and just happens to coincide with a fresh start to a newer life. Hopefully, a better life with great things like security, stability, safety, and all other appropriate “S” words.
Everything is moved except for furniture and people. By this time on Sunday, we should be in place and a good deal more joyful. Once we get settled in and our internet is activated, I’ll spruce this place up a bit.
Stay tuned, and remember, life is good.
